Appearance:

Bamboo Shrimp are larger freshwater shrimp with a tan to reddish-brown body and subtle striping. Their most unique feature is their fan-like appendages, which they use to filter food from the water column.

Tank Requirements:

• Tank Size: 20+ gallons
• Temperature: 72–80°F
• pH: 6.5–7.5
• Water: Clean, well-oxygenated with moderate to strong flow

Diet 

• Filter feeders (they do NOT graze like other shrimp)
• Eat microscopic particles:

Behavior & Compatibility:

• Very peaceful
• Best kept singly or in small groups

• Very difficult in freshwater
• Larvae require brackish water stages, so breeding is rare in home aquariums

• Place rocks or driftwood near filter outflow so they can “fan feed”
• If they start picking surfaces instead of filtering → not enough food in water column
• Avoid overly clean tanks (they need suspended particles)
• Supplement feeding regularly in clear water tanks
