Description
The L397 Alenquer Tiger Pleco is a small, colorful pleco species known for its striking orange and black tiger-like striping. Native to the Amazon region near Alenquer in Brazil, it is popular among aquarists because it stays relatively small compared to common plecos and has a peaceful temperament.
Adult fish usually reach about 4–5 inches (10–12 cm), making them suitable for medium aquariums rather than the very large tanks required for many plecos.
This species is a wood-eating pleco (xylivore) that grazes on biofilm and algae growing on driftwood. Because of this, aquariums should always include driftwood along with caves or hiding places where the fish can rest during the day.
Basic care requirements:
- Temperament: Peaceful, but can be territorial with other plecos
- Adult size: ~4–5 inches
- Tank size: 20–30+ gallons recommended
- Temperature: 75–82°F (24–28°C)
- pH: 6.5–7.5
- Diet: Driftwood, algae wafers, sinking pellets, and vegetables like zucchini or spinach
Behavior:
- Mostly nocturnal and often hides during the day
- Best kept with peaceful community fish
- Requires good filtration and stable water conditions
Notes: Assortment includes a mix of colors and patterns; Exact colors and markings will vary; Stock photo used; fish received may differ.
