Green Scat

Green Scat (also called Spotted Scat) is a hardy, fast-growing fish best known for its round body, dark spots, and greenish-silver coloration.

Quick definition:
• Scientific name: Scatophagus argus
• Juveniles are green/silver with black spots
• Adults often lose spots and become more solid silver/green
• Adult size: 10–15 inches

Key traits:
• Very active, strong swimmer
• Semi-aggressive, especially as it grows
• Omnivorous (algae, flakes, pellets, vegetables, frozen foods)
• Extremely hardy

Water requirements (important):
• Juveniles: freshwater → brackish
• Adults: brackish to full marine recommended
• Long-term freshwater usually leads to health issues

Aquarium notes:
• Needs large tank (125+ gallons as adult)
• Strong filtration required
• Likes rocks, open swimming space, and driftwood
• Best kept with other large brackish fish

We ship on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday via USPS Priority Mail. Once we get your order, we will ship it within 1 to 5 business days. Guaranteed to arrive alive you have one hour of delivery to report any death. You must take a picture while the fish is dead in the bag before it’s opened.
