Overview:

Apistogramma borellii, also known as the Umbrella Dwarf Cichlid, is a peaceful and colorful South American cichlid ideal for planted aquariums. They are smaller and less aggressive than many other Apistogramma, making them a great choice for community setups.

Temperament:

Peaceful to mildly territorial (especially during breeding)

Diet:

Carnivore/Omnivore – micro pellets, frozen & live foods (brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms)

Water Parameters:

• Temperature: 72–79°F
• pH: 6.0–7.5
• Soft to moderately hard water preferred

Care Notes:

• Best kept as a pair or small harem (1 male with 2–3 females)
• Provide caves, driftwood, and leaf litter for natural behavior
• Males display brighter colors; females turn yellow when breeding
• Great for peaceful community tanks with small fish

Coloration:

Males show iridescent blue with yellow highlights and extended fins; females are more subdued but turn bright yellow during breeding
