Apistogramma Agassizii (Agassiz’s Dwarf Cichlid)

 

 

Apistogramma Agassizii is a vibrant and territorial dwarf cichlid native to the Amazon Basin, prized for its elongated body, flowing fins, and striking color variations. Males display intense reds, blues, and yellows, while females develop bright yellow tones when breeding. They thrive in well-structured aquariums with plenty of hiding spaces and are best suited for semi-peaceful community tanks.

Tank Setup: Sand substrate with driftwood, caves, and dense plants to create territories and hiding spots. Leaf litter and tannins help replicate their natural environment.

 

Compatibility: Best kept as a pair or in a harem (1 male with multiple females). Suitable tank mates include tetras, pencilfish, and other peaceful species. Avoid aggressive or overly large fish.

 

Breeding: Cave spawner. Females guard eggs and fry while males defend the territory. Slight aggression increases during breeding.
